it’s nice to do a thing that’s the best thing you’ve done in a long long time.
i was aimlessly wandering through the orange blanketed hillsides of the Anza-Borrego desert and it was the best thing i’ve done in a long long time — it was liberating and absolutely extraordinary.
just me, my city girls, and wide open spaces. for forty-eight hours, we lived off gas station groceries, which included some of the finer things in life: a fresh jar of Skippy, endless sleeves of Ritz crackers and a family-size bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos.
as we rolled into the super bloom terrain, it appeared as if God had sprinkled the orange powder from the bottom of our chip bag over all the scenery. a normally barren-looking Death Valley landscape transformed into a rare colorful and vivid field of nacho cheesy flowery goodness — a sight no polaroid could fully capture such beauty.
i danced around in the desert, fully alive with vibrant greenery and poppies. i got dirt under my neon yellow polished nails. i slept outside with the snakes and mountain lions. i felt chills when i heard a live band play Mary Jane’s Last Dance at the local biker bar.
oh. my. my. oh. hell. yes.
the super bloom that folks will be talking about for decades to come; it helped close the door to an uncharacteristically rainy season, not only for Mother Nature, but also in my life. hopefully it won’t take as long to find the next best thing. ♡
