here’s the story of a great American cross country road trip.
picture this: two BFFs and a party pack of oreos on a dark desert highway (cool wind through their hair.) just some lost california soul sisters driving across state lines — breathing dreams like air.
we logged over thirty hours in Bill’s little black kia, which she appropriately named Black Beauty. from dixie chicks sing-a-longs to the comfortable silence between two old friends and the hymn of a highway, Black Beauty heard it all.
wide open spaces, toooooo many oreos, and quality life chats with Molly Billion was like hitting the ultimate *refresh* button. it was a picturesque ending to the chapter we lived through and agreed to title, “You Can’t Make This Shit Up.”
as we trekked from one beautiful, mind-blowing scenic scape to the next, mysteries of planet earth was a re-occurring theme in conversation. after all, we are just a bunch of aliens living on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam! (my dad had the tv turned on to a lot of discovery channel documentaries narrated by carl sagan throughout my childhood.) but really, driving through the vast orange mars-like rocks of utah made me feel like such an earthling.
“Look again at that pale blue dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.” - carl sagan
on this trip, i was gently reminded that it’s okay to be a little lost on this spaghetti bowl highway we call life. if you look for them, signs will always lead you where you need to be. for Bill, the signs pointed home sooner. we parted ways when i took a one-way flight back to the bay and she headed onwards to the heartland (both en route to where we need to be.)
we did a lot of cool stuff on our planet that week but the amazing pictures we took could tell the story of our adventure way better than any of my blabbering words. so enjoy our great American road trip through these captured moments — and please, go plan yourself a crazy wild adventure through this land that was made for you and me. ♡♡♡
